  • A grey cloudy day here until 3pm when the sun came out ......... and it was GLORIOUS! Thankfully came home at 4pm and sat in the garden with a cup of tea and my GYO Mag. Then cooked a quick dinner and we sat in our new sitterooterie eating it! It was very hot, no wind and no midges either. It must have been well into the 20s (dont' laugh!). Then suddenly we saw the fog gathering on the hill and within ten minutes we were engulfed in thick fog.

It is now so thick that I can't see the garden fence. Oh well, typical Shetland weather. Four hours of sunshine and probably four days of fog!

      • Today started with a sea haar, which lifted about 2 o'clock this afternoon, then came back in at about 5 tonight. Three hours in between were scorching.

          • Have had three days of constant rain, accompanied by easterly winds with a real bite to them - seems to have been a strange month June - not much sun or heat for that matter and some crops seem to have taken the opportunity to have a rest and stop growing for a bit - still look healthy but not exactly racing ahead with things.

              • Cold northerly winds, only managed 9 degrees today. Grey skies and at times quite heavy rain. Can't believe this is 26 June!

                • Wind still coming from the North and bloody cold with it. However, it was sunny and when I was in polytunnel had to take fleece off and was still sweating buckets. Step outside and you near froze to death !

                  • We had some sun yesterday , but today normal grey skies were resumed, then a couple of real heavy downpours.
The second one lasted half an hour and managed to put another 100 litres of rainwater into my IBC collection tank - all this while myself and the farmer I rent the land from sat in my shed having coffee and apple pie !!

                    • Still no rain. Am having to water the garden nearly every day.

Today was bright and sunny, and incredibly warm. Even when it got grey around 6 tonight, it was still warm, and we sat outside for a wee tipple on the new terrace (oh don't I sound grand). Tonight it has gone flat calm, not a ripple on the loch, I can even see the fish rising here from the house. Awfuly midgy but I was working in the tunnel tonight.

Thanks to your lovely photos Jennie I can now picture where you live. Don't take any notice of Snadger - as a trout fisher lady myself, I never kept any brown trout - only the rainbow ones. Bernie

                          • Its many years since I fly fished for trout! But OH did come home with fresh mackerel last night so we had that for tea tonight.

Today has been a mixture of fog (thick - so thick it grounded all the aircraft) and bright sunshine. Just had a lovely walk with the Aimee, the dog along the loch edge, lots of whimbrels and curlews around this year and a whooper swan with four signets. Thankfully just enough wind to keep the midges at bay.

                              • June here in Ireland was the wettest since 1956.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
