Mild here today have just been for a walk to pick chanteralles and the trees are definatly turning, not many mushrooms about yet to dry, but rain forecast tonight so could be more tomorrow, if the rabbits dont get them first.

      Didn't realise rabbits ate mushrooms!

An amazingly settled week of weather, wind in the north, but relatively mild and very warm when the sun comes out. Lots of midges unfortunately as some very still days, but for the first time my onions outside are drying nicely and I had to water the garden!

The last three days have been scorchers - clear skies and temoperatures well up - had to sit in the shade for my lunch and I'm a sun worshipper. Forecast is for more of the same tomorrow - yee hah!

Scorcher here today - no wind early morning and got eaten alive by midges. Then the wind got up, but it was WARM and the whole day right up to 6.30 this evening has been warm and sunny. Still only showing 21 degrees on the car. We are obviously acclimatised to this weather and now find 21 degrees the equivalent of 30.

Went for a walk for the first time this year in shorts and a sleeveless top - no thermal "just in case". Also had to damp down the tunnel and greenhouse mid day.

Can we have the same tomorrow please !

Yep - Like Jennie, today was a scorcher again but we clouded over at about 6 this evening and then it rained - looked as if it was goona p*** down but lasted 10 mins then stopped. Very close and threatening thunder from the look of things, but may just pass over.

p.s - jennie, you might need to explain what a thermal is to our southern cousins

A "thermal" is an extremely warm, layered duvet which one requires to wear in northern climes to maintain body heat in extreme low temperatures. Sometimes it has an integral "wind blanket" which stops the "lazy" wind.

                That do SR?

"Lazy wind" - from my Suffolk days. Lazy wind is that which is too lazy to go ra-a-nd you so goes thru you.

Not a cloud in the sky, too hot to work - sweating just standing still !
Seriously, yesterday, today and through to Monday are forecast as being really hot up here ! Makes a bloody change from sitting in front of the TV, listening to the rain battering down as Auntie Beeb rabbits on about the heatwave currently engulfing everywhere south of Sheffield :

Another scorcher again today - got the barbie out for supper tonight - only came in cause the midgies were chewin' us up.
Heavy dews in the mornings and a bit chilly at night - had the woodburning stove on last night for an hour or so to take the chill off, but absolutely sweltering in the day.

Just spent two weeks in Spain with temperatures around 30 degrees. Came home on Tuesday (18th) at 13.00 and the garden looked fantastic, flowers, etc. By 1400 the wind had got up and everything was laid flat!

It was the Equinox Gale. Apparently Force 11 (Violent Storm 56-65 knots) at times during the night. The garden is now decimated, but at least I saw it for an hour.

Today we woke to absolute calm and rain. Still around 16 degrees during the day and only dropping to 11/12 degrees at night. Getting dark around 1900.

Gardened today in Tshirt and shorts - 18 degrees. Unbelievable for September 23rd this far north.

Thick fog for two days - not usual September weather. Been one of the foggiest summers ever. Still very warm - 15 degrees every day. Amazing!

Today was extremely calm with no wind, but the sun did come out for about an hour at 6pm. Was very strange, it being so calm and the sun throwing such long shadows. Incredible hips on the Rosa Rugosa - never seen that before and geraniums flowering well for a second time.

A report in the local paper says it was the hottest July since 1650 something. Did they have thermometers then?

Its official - warmest September in Shetland for 70 odd years. Today the temperature was 16 degrees (unbelievable!), even though it was overcast and a tad windy. Last night coming home at 10ish in the evening, the car temp guage was showing 14 degrees. It has been incredibly warm at night, I don't think it has dropped below 10 degrees so far.

Lots of problems for mussel farmers here with the sea temperature being so high, so late in the year and there have been toxic blooms on a number of the inland lochs, which have killed a number of dogs. Pretty heavy stuff this warm summer.
