Oh don't say that OWG ! - we're laying flags tomorrow and taking up the rest of the turf. In fact, I've taken Monday and Tueseday off work 'cos it said it would be dry

Is it not a bit late for christmas spuds? Thought you needed to plant them over a month ago, if I'd known I could leave it this late I might have got some but too late now as I haven't got any seed spuds. Always next year I suppose, never seem to be organised enough.

I've already planted some carlingford in the ground alison (well, around 4 weeks ago). I can't seem to get hold of any other seeds tatties, so was going to nip to sainsburys around the corner and get some from there to plant in my pots!
I tried the "Tesco" variety as an experiment this year - and they worked very well! Guess I was just lucky though - worth a try! DDL

When you say you're going to nip to Sainsburys does that mean you can get away with their cooking spuds? Didn't know you could do that if so what do I need to look for, could be persuaded to have an experiment of my own.

Actually did plant some of their, em, charlottes(?) the only thing about using supermarket tatties is that they may not chitt (sprout) or are more prone to disease - but hey, worth a try if you can't get anything else! DDL

Thanks. Will have a root around at the back of the cupboard and see what I can find and then cross my fingers and hope they go OK.

We have just had a terrific thunderstorm here this morning right on top of the house with sheet lightning that lit up the sky red & then white! The house was literally shaking & as I was in the shower at the time I thought I'd better get out in case the lightning struck & I was found naked in the rubble! The garden will have to wait a couple of days as the forecast says it should get better at the end of the week - hopefully.

Same storm here at 730am this morning, poor Bella was soo frightened she was literally shaking with fear! I had to stay home late to sort her out before going into work (fortunately I am the boss, and I'm not on the rota for today as I was supposed to be doing a stocktake at anothr branch, but it was cancelled at the last minute!)

Not impressed with the nights drawing in soo quickly, we were off yesterday and hence down at the plot, spent 3 hours sorting out a base of paving slabs for the greenhouse to sit on, then 4 hours trying to build it back up, it were dark before we'd finished the front, back and sides! Had to leave the roof and glazing until this weekend, so hope the weather is going to be reasonable!

Lovely again today - cleared the greenhouse out this morning and have left all the vents etc open now so that it drys and airs properly. Can't believe it's sunny today at the weekend and yesterday when I was at work it was thick fog - normally I'm stuck in the office when it's nice and spend the weekend dashing in and out between the rain! Off out again now and fingers crossed it's nice again tomorrow.
