The frost

Anyone want to share photos of those annoying things that the frost has been getting up to?

I put all my pots/containers under cover, I don't quite trust the statement of being frost proof, indeed most are also plunged in the ground, mind I am north of Moscow lol.

We had a colder than usual winter here this year.

We are still getting frosts, winters not over yet.

It is unlikely we will have any more pot cracking frost now.

There is some frost on the way back again.
We have still got the April hail stone season to go yet before the very tender plants go out.

I think i've only had a "pot cracking frost" once. It looked fine but when i picked it up, it literally crumbled.

My one just fell to bits when it thawed out.

The frost has been at it again.
The usually hardy rhubarb has been scorched by the frost.
It is just the leaves and not the crop that is affected.

I was just looking at my emerging cherry blossom....brown
plum blossom...brown
peach blossom....brown
magnolia blossom....2nd brown zap
mirabelle blossom...brown
even the first strawberry flower....zapped.
just the apple and pear and it’ll be a full house this year

I haven’t the heart to check out my rhubarb...

I’ve also been very carefully picking up broken shards of pot off the patio....pah.

I've noticed new growth on the roses and the raspberries all damaged by the cold.

Some of your plum blossoms might still be okay.
The plum at my allotment is badly frosted, but about 10% of the flowers are still okay.
You want to look at the stigma, not the petals. If the stigma is brown or black, the flower is dead. If it's still yellow, then the flower is still alive.

The flower buds on my apple in the back garden have remained tightly closed. I am hoping they will hold back long enough for the frost to be over before they open.

Even after they open, fruit blossom can actually survive -1 just fine, and even -2 for about 30 minutes before sustaining any damage. -2 for an extended period of time, or any temperature lower than that, and they start dying, though.
