Planting out too early - a common problem...

I think Alice's advice is good, the later the better, anytime from mid-May to June and you should be safe for planting out runner or french beans for most parts of the UK.

No - not if it's still cold (which it is, at night). Sure, a frost may not kill them if they're fleeced, but they don't LIKE the cold ... they will suffer a check to their growth and may never catch up.

Will be sowing my Frenchies in the next few days but got given a few runners the other day. Wasn't going to grow them but as they were free and healthy and I'd nowhere to put them, they've been planted out on the plot (yesterday) so they can sink or swim. If we're lucky we'll get an early crop but as we didn't grow them, if they sucumb to the weather then we've not lost anything.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
