It is going to be 6 degrees tonight here and I have planted my beans out in the garden - will they be ok or is that too cold for them?

Yes, I have one forecast (metcheck) threatening a low of 2c and the other (weather channel) saying 5c for tonight.. So I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping that the second one is right as I have all my beans out too, and a pumpkin plant

I think things will cope now because they are a bit advanced and have had time to settle in. The problem comes when you put a smallish and newish plant out for the first time and there's a very cold night.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Errrrm, my beans only went out 2 days ago, they'd been hardened off in the lovely sunshine They're going to get quite a shock I think.
Ah well, if they all die, it'll have to be bought ones from the GC, I'm certainly not doing without beans

Hi Leo,
Where is Surrey are you? In the hills?
It was nowhere near 6 degrees last night around here, another balmy night.
In fact I think this has been the warmest spring I have seen in my garden since I started growing here 20 years ago. The runners are at the top of their poles and have started flowering. It's fun to watch the aphid vs ladybird fight that is going on there presently.
I can't help thinking I am going to pay for this weather. Then I remember of course I am already, as I dig the solid and drying clay at the allotment..........

I'm in the hills (well, bottom of Box Hill) and although we get nasty temps here, being in the dip, all was well in my garden this morning. I tend to stop worrying about cold temps at this time of year. Stems are thick enough to cope, now, I think. Even the Kiwi is going great guns without a greenhouse!

The BBC are forecasting a chilly night for me on Friday/Saturday....
The proof of the growing is in the eating.
