Mine was -2.7 in the greenhouse (thank God for fleece) and - 4.1 outside. Disgraceful for May. I shall complain to the management!

Only just found out that 11 - 13 of May is the period of Saints de Glace, well known in France. Freezing cold yesterday and everyone was talking about it, seems it can last for up to 6 days.

The earth moves through a cloud of cosmic dust during that period which blocks the suns rays and causes a fall in temperature. The reverse happens around the 11th November, the summer of St Martin, when the temperatures are unusally high for the time of year.

Lucky you, Binley! Last three nights FROST. It has burnt the spuds, young shoots on an Ash and Walnut, scotched the top of the beech hedge (will save having to cut that). Generally it has done a lot of damage and not much sigh of it warming up much at all. Worse than that the ground is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO dry due to almost complete lack of rain that things just aren't growing.

Well I'm not entirely convinced but it will take me a week or two to make sure everythings hardened off enought to plant out which brings us to June.

I'm starting to get a bit panicky about this now, I'm due to go away for a long week at the end of May, normally just closing the greenhouse at night and opening in the morning is enough and I can get a neighbour to do that, or often, I can just leave the GH open.

But Metchecks long term forecast for the end of May, start of June is terrible, down to 1c at night!
Which for me, means certain frosts.

Womble, do you have bubble wrap in your greenhouse? I have the big bubbles and it really does help.

Don't panic. I find any forecast beyond a week on metcheck is not reliable. Temps always seem to be low. Probably because they cannot predict accurately beyond a week. I would check nearer the time as I think you might find the temps will have changed

                                OK, not panicking Thanks

Now I'm a bit calmer, I did notice this last week. Here's hoping that it all gets better then from now on. Skin of my teeth, hopefully.
