  • Definition of drought???

I'm just wondering if the UK has an official 'drought' - as in 1976???

At what point is there an official drought- anyone know???
I did find this...but not sure if we've already got to that point in many parts of the UK????

I think my back garden is suffering a drought, I've not seen rain for almost 3 weeks now.

We've certainly reached that point here in East Anglia.

from Nicos' link: "n the UK an absolute drought is defined as a period of at least 15 consecutive days on none of which is there more than 0.2 mm of rainfall"

I looked in my diary and we've only had 4 days of rain (and not much then) since April.

Drought, the very title drives me mad.
We had the hardest winter that i can ever remember.
The roads were impassable with snow and ice.
when the thaw set in there was water everywhere.
A few months on, we are told there is a shortage of water.
What can i say, (or not)

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

No drought here, I haven't watered anything very much even in the dry weather. It is raining gently but persistently here now

I only have a maximum of 10 days worth of water left at the allotment. That's a drought to me! But as far as their definition goes, I think we meet that too.

I thought it rained all the time in the UK... How is it possible to have a drought there?

It only rains all the time in the UK in American films.

Likewise since April we have had very few days of rain in Dorset.

In Newcastle it's officially classed as 'a nice day' if the rain comes down vertically!
