I'm not sure if it has ever happened before, but the ski resorts here in the Hautes Pyrenees department now have the most snow of anywhere in the World. 7meters deep at Cauterets.
Fantastic. Well, no. The main resort near us (Bareges) has been mostly closed and yesterday thay had an avalanche in town. Poor folk had driven up for a weekend of skiing, but the resort had to close because of the risk of avalanche, which promptly arrived and swept through the carpark. So these guys have driven up, payed to stay in hotels, been unable to ski, had their cars destroyed and then had to be evacuated.
And people have been complaining... Hello. Its nature.
Meanwhile, we've just had the precipitation in the form of rain. Pretty much non-stop since the second week in January. Yesterday we had the heart-warming vision of water gushing out of the mole hills in the orchard. Shame...
Oh, look. Its snowing here too, now.
Perhaps this should have gone in the rant, thread?
But my daffs and tulips are up...
