Is there an existing thread already along these lines? I thought it would be useful and interesting to hear what weather conditions are like in others' gardens and locations during the growing year.
For example, two nights ago, May 26th, we had a forecast for 2C here near the Loire Valley in France. From past experience we knew that should be a cause for concern as we live in a frost pocket. But although we threw a couple of sheets over some French beans we couldn't protect the potatoes.
I woke up around 4.30 a.m. and found ice on the bottom of all the house windows, and our entire potato crop outside has been badly 'burned'. Some friends a few miles away recorded minus 3.5C in their little valley, almost unheard of here in late May, and some time after what the French call the 'Saints Glaces'.... the days when you can expect the last frosts.
After cold and wet weather like in the UK, we had two very sunny and warm days on Sunday and Monday but today we are back to rain and cooler conditions. I'm wondering when I am going to be completely safe in getting the tomatoes, peppers and courgettes outside. We used to grow melons in the open here, but I can't see that happening this year. The climate seems to have changed.
