East Coast storms, Dec '13

I been out today with the camera, thought some of you might like to see what's happening to the east coast re: erosion and today's storm surge/high tide.
The beach and coast defences have been eroded over the decades, but very much faster in the last couple of years.

1) main road, Lowestoft
2) Lowestoft prom, which is normally about 12ft above the beach/water
3) a chunk of the prom's sea defence wall, loads of it has been detached & flung inland by the sea
4) a car park in Oulton Broad
5) a grassy park, normally! Nick Everitts in O. Broad

Please feel free to add pictures from Yorkshire, Scotland etc too

Good photos but looks appalling 2S. Hope you haven't been affected personally by it.
I did have a wry smile at the 1st photo with the "Learn Scuba" advert though.

Gawd! That looks terrible, I thought of you when they said it was going to hit the East coast. As VC said, hope you are all OK.

We holiday in Sea Palling so I hope the cottage we stay in ( and the rest of the village) are ok. My step father is from Norwich and remembers visiting the area in '53. He was telling me how the salt in the seawater contaminated the farm land for years afterwards. Something I'd never really considered before. At least no fatalities this time.

Thanks for taking the time to let us see this. Even though we are on the east coast up here, the land rises away from the sea quite sharply so we don't have the same problems as those with flatter ground. Scary stuff.

I think I have been in that park, is it the one in Oulton Broad? Looks pretty bad, what's the rest of Lowestoft like, was wondering what it is like around St Margarets?

How's Kessingland? My cousin and his wife now live over here, but her family is all still in Kessingland.

Not heard anything about Kessingland or Oulten Broad,the dunes at Hemsby took a battering as did Cromer.Off to Stalham shortly will nose around the area with my camera if I get a chance.

Saw some photos of oulten broad somewhere else and it was wet. Bridge closed I think they said.

Must be cold and miserable for those who've lost power too. Water and fire can be very scary things.
