  • Who else is not keen on this time of year ?

Well I may be alone here but I generally find this time of year around mid July onward not very nice because of.

    1) Dry winds drying out soil and compost very fast.
    2) Humidity
    3) Pests at their worse
    4) Plants going leggy and veg bolting
    5) Things starting to look more tatty and dying off.
    6) Hey fever
    7) Blight
    7) Did I mention wind ? I hate wind.

I personally love the time of early spring from late Feb up to about June with fresh, green new growth. The high hopes. I also like Autumn in it's proper place but sadly things are getting too unreliable.

I like this time of year for the long light evenings, soft fruit picking, flowers, butterflies and baby birds.
November and February are my least favourite months.

I keep reminding myself that it is still only mid-July as it feels like late August - so much is dry, brown and crispy.
But, loving the late evenings for doing the watering, all the flowers and too much veg to know what to do with.
Pests have eased off - the slugs are hiding from the heat and the wasps and birds have eaten most of the CWB caterpillars. Only the flea beetles are persistent little b*****s.
So no, I feel as though this moment, right now (drought and 40 degrees aside) is what the veggie garden and all the hard work has been building up to.
Hayfever is done - it is a May/June problem for me.

I love Spring it's my favourite time of year, everything is fresh and things are starting to grow. There's the promise of warmer weather and light evening ahead but July is my favourite month of all! It's my birthday month, most of my friends seem to be born in July and August and I really love parties

I quite like this time of year bit like Scarlet as its a count down to my birthday. I don't like it if its to hot though.
I like fact that nature is well and truly in the swing of things and there are plenty of things to pick in the garden. My only thing that bugs me are the weeds. They seem to grow twice as fast as my crop so its a constant battle.
Least favourite must be February/March as its nearly the end of winter but not quite there.

I love this time of year, no worries about frost, the mad spring panic of sowing and planting is over and light levels mean things are much less likely to be leggy. Harvesting is picking up and soon I'll be filling the freezer and shelves ready for winter. Thankfully don't get hay fever so don't have to worry about that and now the schools are breaking up the roads are going to be pretty empty so I can get home quicker and do stuff in the lovely light evenings. Don't associate this time of year with winds so guess that must be regional.

I love this time of year, especially. Long days, sunny weather (not always I know) and balmy evenings to sit outside, rather than round the fire/telly, and plenty of fresh veg and fruit from the plot.
Spring is ok cos I'm looking forward to Summer....and sorting out the seed boxes. Again and again

Autumn isn't quite so good as the days are noticeably shortening, but there's jam, chutney and pickles to be made.

I get S.A.D in the short days of Winter and it's an effort just to get out of bed and I hate the cold
The plus side is if I'm moaning about it - then I'm still alive, a Brucie bonus LOL

I like summer except when it is hot.
No matter:the allotment is lovely, the tadpoles have legs, my sea kale has germinated and I am glad to be home.

I love and eagerly anticipate each season as it arrives....then towards the end I get a little bit fed up with it and can't wait for the next one to begin.

Not nearly time to get fed up with summer yet though, late August is when I will start to hanker for cool foggy mornings with dew soaked spider webs and the smell of woodsmoke.....

But why do we get so many windy days? I never recall windy days nearly all the time in summers gone by. You water everything and the wind dries all your pots out in notime.

We grow nearly all our crops in pots and its a lot of watering for us. Good job my husband finds watering therapeutic.
