Red Ants

I have got some red ants on my allotment,does anyone know if they bite and how can i get rid of them.

Red Ants can sting and this can be quite sore as when they sting you, not being content with merely stabbing you, they inject a type of acid through the sting.
Stand on them, dust with ant powder, follow them to find their nest then batter it to death with ant killer, or boiling water, or petrol and a match

In the past, I've always found that heat seeking missiles leave a fairly large crater, and the collateral damage to beneficial beasties is just too high to be bearable - also, as you rarely catch ants going solo, the heat seeking device gets confused and cannot decide which ant to lock on to !

I thought ants are supposed to be one of the few species which would survive a nuclear attack???...or is that cockroaches??
