  • The dreaded Carrot Fly...how???

    Hi.
So, if the carrot fly can only fly up to a foot or two off the ground; how did it get into my courtyard?

    7 feet walls both sides.
House at the front, garage at the back. No way into the courtyard apart from house and garage.

Never any doors open at the same time.

Little raised bed area had not had any previous plants, as we built them when we came.

So, how did they get in???

Blown in by the wind I'm afraid.
Book knowledge and practical experience don't always go hand in hand!

    Fleece next year then??

We have them each year and grow early varieties, and cover them in fleece at all times. Doesn't look pretty, but at least you don't end up chopping away 90% of the carrot.

Some say you should sow your carrots before the cowparsly flowres or after it has finshed depending on the type of carrot
Some things in their natural state have the most VIVID colors

Will be making little fleece bivouacs over my mini raised beds this year...and loads of coriander as that seemed to do the trick in the main beds.

          Little bu@@ers.
