  • Red spider mite

They are attacking my overwintering Kumquat and Curry leaves plants.
I have been squeezing them and spraying the plant with some water to keep the humidity up.Oh boy they are really tiny !!!
How should I make sure that they are gone ?
    Helppppp...

    Many thanks in advance.

Momol - I had RSM on my aubergines last year. I mixed up a solution of cornflour, milk and water and sprayed the whole plants with it. I think this acts as a sort of 'glue' to disable the mites. It worked for me anyway!
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Momol, you might be able to purchase a natural predator called phytoseiulus persimilis from a garden centre or online, but it might be a bit to early for them to be being sent out in the post. i know they are available in the UK but not sure where in the Netherlands. The manufacturers are called Koppert who are based in your country but they won't sell to gardeners.

Until you can get some, keep the humidity up as that will put them off but unfortunately it won't kill them.

If i were you i would use a systemic insecticide as they are bu**ers to get rid of. Make sure if there are any wooden sticks/supports in the pot that you remove and destroy them as RSM are notorious for using them as hiding places.
There's vegetable growing in the family, but I must be adopted
      Happy Gardening!

Thanks for the advice Seahorse and Protea.
I know the Kopper Protea, our nearby green house farmers use their product (biologic pest controls). They sells lots of bugs/mite for green house grower but like you said they don't sell directly to hobby gardener. I will try to get it from our green house farmer instead, if I am lucky . Meanwhile, I will try the spraying as they are indoor at the windowsill.

Seahorse I found this web (similar to your RSM formula). Will try it and see what happen.

          Hi Momol
Try using neem oil - it is particularly good against red spider mite and is also good against aphids and a bunch of other pests. Its all organic and Ive found it invaluable. You can buy it online (look for the garden neem) here; Home

              Hi Momol
If I remember right you have to spray at 7 day intervals? Neem is brilliant, I use it all the time and Ive also got some really lovely face cream with neem in that does wonders for dry skin! Its also supposed to be good for treating nits (head lice) and excemza too.

                Hello all,

Just want to report, I no longer has the RSM poblem, has sprayed my infected plant with both neem oil and the suggested solution on the link I posted. I don't know which one do the magical work but it work .
