  • What a wimp??????????

I set six mole traps a couple of days ago. Four had been triggered today but the sly moles had filled them with soil! One is still set with no results up til now.

This is the embarrassing part, one had a mole in it but he was still alive and kicking. He was squeeling like a pig so I unset the trap and dropped him on the turf. He/ or she tried to dig himself into the turf but the ground was so hard he couldn't. He kept looking at me even though he had no eyes and in the end I picked him up, even though he was protesting and popped him back in his hole. He shot down the hole like a ferret up a troouserleg!

Am I getting soft in my old age? I am the guy who is getting chickens soon with the idea of using them as egg layers during the summer and knocking them on the head for the winter.

My mate has been ragging me all day and the local shooting fraternity have had a good laugh at my expense, but............. I can sleep easy tonight and couldn't give a toss what they think!

When we cornered a baby bunny on our plot, my OH picked it up by the scruff of it's neck, told it off .....and released it into the field!!!!
You'd clearly get on well with him Snadge!!
And yes- he slept well that night too!

I ruthlessly kill mice in my aviary but a few weeks ago found one that had got his head through the wire but got his fat bum stuck! The quail were pecking him,and would have pecked him to death and my first thought was to kill him somehow. However,he looked so comical and pathetic that I pushed him through the wire and off into the garden.I just hope he learned his lesson!!

Snadger, you're a hero (just take that last trap out or you might regret it!) I'd still get the hens but I'd look at the price of the nice organic chickens you can now buy in the shops for your dinner!

i'm a firm believer that you kill only to eat , at the end of the day animals were here before us and as they havent the intelligance to evole like we did its our job to look after them.
I find those chickens will be nice and tasty looking for xmas, just as long as you dont name em hehehe then you will feel guilty .
I hate unessesary killing, (unless its a slug they serve no purpose along with wasps)where i used to live down in kent the council used to put mixi down to control the rabbits now that is cruel
