Nothing wimpish about respecting life. Quite some years ago we had a cocky young magpie in our garden and he kept attacking our Dakky rat, Ludo. Ludo wouldn't even go into the garden to perform his ablutions after a while so I had no choice but to deal with this magpie.
I shot it through the head from some distance (once a sharp shooter you never lose the skill). Even now I feel physically sick at the thought of this action. Shirley was quite concerned at my reaction to this killing. I felt it was excessive but I saw no other way to stop poor Ludo being pecked and left bleeding. I hung the dead magpie out in the garden to warn off others. Since then we have had no problems with them.. So mercifully the rifle stays away and I can keep a clean conscience.
