  • Mealy Bug?

    Can anyone help?

I have a small, orange coloured Acer in the garden and have noticed tonight that it's stem is covered in what looks like brown, oval shaped things sitting on top of a cotton wool like substance.

What do I use to get rid of it as I don't want to lose this plant, or let it spread.

An old fashioned remedy was to get a pad of cotton wool, soak it in methylated spirits, and wipe the affected stems. Doesn't harm the plant, but the bugs don't like it!!

Thanks for the advice. I raided hubby's garage and found some methylated on the shelf, used as instructed and plant is now clear.
