The local cats have discovered that my greyhound died a year ago and have started visiting. I have found that a few drops of concentrated citrus oil from a herbalists shop is effective. I put a few drops around the tops of my raised beds and they don't go on them. Wife got some cat deter crystals cheap from Aldi last week and they are also strong citrus smelling but I haven't tried them yet.

If you have any friendly farmers, ask them for some netting from round their silage bales, it is a fairly weak net, but strong enough to keep birds out of my strawberrys this year, so should do the job

I had the same problem with my cat. He thought we had made him four lovely new cat litter trays.
I have had to stretch some netting accross each bed and secure it with some canes. I was just cheap netting from the garden centre - think it was a pound a metre and its about 2 metres wide. We originally bought it to cover the gooseberries and protect the fruit from the birds.
Will post pics later!

You could try one of these methods and they are obviously reusable from year to year.
The "Milo Barrier" I use when I do fresh planting and want to stop the dog traipsing all over them. The cloche not only keeps the dog and pigeons off but for brassica etc, keeps the butter flies off.
The hoops are made from water tube that you quite often find in skips on new buildings or can be bought from a plumbers merchants. The netting is like scaffold netting and very strong. I bought mine off EBay it was 2mt wide and you can get various lengths, I got 50mts for about £30. The canes you use according to the length of the beds but it stops the netting from sagging in between the hoops.Attached FilesI am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.
