Still trying on that one. I just take off the new growth as often as possible, in the hope that one day - maybe many years from now - it will admit defeat and die.
Good luck with it, if you find a good way to get rid please let me know.

If you pluck the new growth off fairly regular your veg wont be affected at all.

Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) Horsetail, recognition and eradication
and Marestail (Hippuris vulgaris) are different, and no relation to each other

A case of when it is useful to have Latin names, as the common name is often wrong, or used wrongly.
Anyway, good luck with it. x

I was told when i first had a plot do not worry about marestail it will not be there when it is time to harvest your crops and they was right it only seems to grow in spring and early summer Jacob

Keeping it down, keeps it flat with the ground, and so in some ways it acts as a weed suppressant its self, no effect to the crops.

Apparently it prefers badly drained/compacted earth, so by cultivating the soil you're already discouraging it! Depending what I have growing, I either pull up as much of it as I can, or round things like onions I cut the top off it with a pair of scissors! In just a year, I can already see that it is weaker - the roots are thinner, and it comes up slightly less often!

Does it look like this? With black, sort of stretchy roots?
