Hello all a newbie here. I planted some peas a couple of weeks back and a few have come up, so I decided to investigate why no more had come up to say hello. I found the peas where full of very small white maggots, is this the vine weavel. I had this problem about 10 years ago on a flower bed and I treated with some chemical product that sorted them out.
How should I treat my patch now I am trying to grow some veg etc. Other things growing are, corn OK so far, beetroot OK so far and some lettuce which I have transfered from the greenhouse.

Probably pea moth. Plant the peas earlier or later next time to avoid the time when the moth is flying.

Thanks for the reply The pea seeds that I planted a few weeks ago are being attacked underground I get a bit of root growth and a small shoot but the seed is full of maggots

yes that the things in my seeds after reading the item on the link it only said about them above ground will it still be the pea weevil.
Sorry to keep asking questions but as I have said im a newbie to GYO
Does anyone know how to treat should I spray, leave or remove infected soil from the pea rows

PS. at the side of the veg patch I do have a large conifer tree and the article says they like the bark of trees

Another problem with the vine/pea veavil, after noticing some of my Mizuno was droopy I pulled it up and inside the root was a little white pest/grub. I had a look around and found 5 very small grubs, I pulled the next plant up but there was no sign of anything.
At the moment in the patch I have lettuce growing, beetroot, radish, sweetcorn and some onions, all these seem to be fine, a question I would like answered is what sould I do regarding treatment?.
My plan was in a month or so to get some more organic manure and dig this in. Should I put a treatment in for the vineweavil? and if I do use a chemical how long should I leave the veg patch before commencing planting?.

Thanks in advance for any replies.
Any advice for preparing the plot for the forthcoming year would be greatly accepted, as next year will be my first full year growing our own.

It might be worth investing in a good general veg gardening book like the Dr Hessayon 'Vegetable and Herb Expert' it won't break the bank and has loads of useful information and pictures to help you identify problems and pests.

Doesn't sound like Vine Weevil.
Pea Weevil is not Vine Weevil either. Different beasties, they eat different plants.
You need to identify what beastie you have actually got before you go throwing treatments around. Can you post any photos for us to see?

Thanks for the replys ,on the picture front in the new GYO magazine in the letter pages near the back there is a picture of the pest so it does look like vine weavil.
