leaf miners

the leaves of my nasturtiums, and a couple of caulis for the last few weeks had tunnels through their leaves, thankfully they don't seem to have suffered, yesterday i found a turnip leaf, that still had 2 bugs crawling through them.

although they make the leaves look weird, do they actually cause problems for the plants if theres a lot? and can they kill plants? is it ok to pull off the leaves that have bugs in or will that upset the plants?
