  • Cabbage root fly

Are these little buggers around at the moment? I've just planted out some cabbage seeds directly outside, and they're netted (1/4 inch mesh) against butterflies.. but obviously I can't put collars around them until they're several inches tall. Will they be alright in the meantime?

Cabbage root fly is most common in spring, but you can get them in summer and even autumn. It is a pest that I have never had. You should be all right, but if you know that the problem is local. you could always collar them later.

Thanks for the advice! I think I won't worry too much about it until spring then. I'm growing in pots outside my house, and I don't think there are any veg gardens in the area. Should be alright then.
