Our oak tree has already started to shed acorns onto my lawn (), and I've been meaning to find out what is wrong with a load (most) of the acorns that fall.
Well, it turns out it's Knopper Gall.
Looks like this:
There are some where you can see the acorn, but most are covered in this gnarly, sticky stuff - the "gall".
Seems it's harmless though, so that's a relief.
