  • Caterpillar in my tomato

Yesterday I found a hole in one of my green tomatoes. I sliced it in half and found that a caterpillar had burrowed to the middle and was having a lovely time. Does anyone think this is the tomato hornworm caterpillar. Is this a threat in the UK. Or is this possibly an isolated event?

Purely from goolge it seems to be USA, it eats the leaves first as opposed to the fruit, so I would think it's an isolated incident. Keep an eye out!

Found a green caterpillar dead in the watering bottle of one of my tomato plants. Checked your link. This was only 2" long. Will keep watch on plants. OH said he saw a moth one evening the size of a bat. Could this have been mommy?

Yep ours are definately tomato hornworm caterpillars. Found another one on the garden bench tonight. OH thinks what he saw was mom or dad. Is it a notifiable pest?
