  • small green beetles?

Hi, the last week we have noticed a small green beetle type thing about 1 cm on our butternut squash, does anyone have any ideas what it is? it has two tiny black stripes on its back.

try going on Google, click Images, and type in "green beetle".
I did, and came up with Rosemary Beetle or this: Google Image Result for http://www.dgsgardening.btinternet.co.uk/leafbeetle01.jpg

The native common green shield bug is harmless, so control measures are not required. Royal Horticultural Society - Gardening Advice: Green Shield Bug

btw, it's a bug not a beetle. I don't know the difference though.

Oooh, shield bugs are beautiful, and not a significant pest. They can suck sap from plants but not seriously enough to warrant any action; some are predatory on other insects.

            ETA: they aren't beetles either.
