Slugs: What is the best way to kill them?

The other night I was quite successful in drowning the beggars in warm soapy water. Last night I used the same bucket of soapy water but because it was now cold soapy water they climbed out. Surely the water temperature should not have made a difference.

What do you put in your bucket to kill them? A friend of mine puts bleach in but I think thats a bit too cruel and the vapours would sting my eyes. How do you kill them?

I'm rather squeamish so prefer not to chop them in half with a spade, nor do I fancy skewering them kebab style.

Are there any really good methods of dispatching them?

I stab um with my knife then send them for flying lessions over the fence in to the school seams to work

You want dead slugs not clean ones ... salty water not soapy

If I don't have any salt to hand, I cut them in half with scissors or a knife... it's quick but you might not want to look at what comes out !

I stamp on the small ones and pour boiling water on the big ones. The salty water makes them exudes vast amounts of slime so I changed my method.

slug pellets, draws them towards them then kills them,i also put dirty nasty cheap salt around my crop,23p a bag from morrisons,that does the trick,i aslo stab them

Snip slugs, throw snails against a wall and follow up with the *mwhaaahaahaa* cry a la Becki!

I also throw them into the dyke for the ducks - but that might not be much use to you. How about gettting chickens? they like them.

I squash them with my boot on a board. I find it is the quickest way without causing them suffering. How would you like someone pouring boiling water over you?

I have just laughed out loud at all these posts. My garden is covered with the largest slugs I have ever seen in my life and I do not have the courage or nerve to kill them as for some strange reason I feel guility! What is the most human way to kill them? or is there a way to send them to a next door neighbour's garden
