Why do I always seem to get either greenfly or scale insect on my indoor plants

Sticky windows and windowsills...and yukky basil.

Anyone know of anything I can water them with- rather than spray-old fashioned idea ( teabag/garlic water or something???)

i use the old fashioned soapy water for everything, so if you want something else I can't help.
as for basil, whatever I do it goes funny, no flies to speak of, but you know something has been at the leaves, my mum said the same, its the one herb i have real trouble with, so I just keep buying new ones.
I have grown my own from seed, and they do exactly the same.

i'm giving up on basil ... it's greenfly spread to everything else. Try washing the leaves off under a tap
