  • Bean Wilt

    Hello folks,

I've noticed that on some of my Runners and Climbing beans random odd leaves have wilted. The rest of the plant appears perfectly healthy. I'm guessing its some kind of wilt, but does anyone know if it is treatable and if it will affect the whole plant?
Apart from that the plants all look really healthy.

Is it definitely just odd leaves, or is it the odd whole plant?
Because it's it's just odd leaves, my guess would just be that the leaf has snapped of. The leaf stems are quite brittle, but even when they snap they usually remain attached by a bit of skin, so don't just fall off. Either you snapped then accidentally when harvested or birds did it (they perch on the leaf stem and it breaks under their weight).

If it's whole plants then it'll be a root problem of some sort. I've had it before now, and it never seems to spread.

Thanks Ameno. It's definitely not birds as they're under a frame and netting. I will have a thorough check and take pics tomorrow but on my quick look there was just a single leaf on Runner and Cobra Climbing, just one leaf on one or two plants.

I have had some wind damage. It also snaps leaves so that they wilt. Small birds usually visit beans to take the aphids.

False alarm. Must have just been random broken leaves after the heavy rain. Everything else is looking great!
