  • Lil beetle.

Found three of these red lily beetles on my plants.
How much damage can these do.
    Do they only attack lilys.
This is the first time I ever saw them.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Nasty little buggers. They can strip all the leaves off if you let them. As far as I know they stick to attacking lilies. I squidge them if I see them, but you have to be sneaky as any tiny movement, and they fall to the ground.

They do eat & destroy the plants,we don’t get them here because I don’t grow lilies anymore,my parents tried growing them but the beetle always ate the plant so they never flowered.

They also get on fritillarias, both the snakeshead and the big orange ones. I lost quite a few snakesheads to them one year and it was a while before I worked out the culprit.

It’s the lavae that do the damage, nasty things covered in poo and looking like birds dropping’s. Squash the beetles and keep an eye on the leaves and at the first sign of damage wipe off the lavae with a piece of tissue. The damage usually starts low down on the plant.

            I get them every year.
I check the plantsevery couple of days and once I spot them I try and check them everyday.

If you hold a jam jar directly below the area you are checking, the adults drop into it!

Its amazing how quickly they devour the plants
