Yes I am old enough to know better but alas only wise after the event.
Yesterday we had open gardens in our village including the allotments and we were all urged by our chairperson to tidy up! I enthusiastically decided to get some Cavalo Nero kale seedlings in.
I remembered last year the cabbage whites had a great time laying their eggs on my kale plants so I went back today to put some mesh over the seedlings only to discover something had eaten them!!
Pigeons aplenty and rabbits too. I vote it was the pigeons.
Fortunately I have plenty more but I will cover them over with mesh the minute they are in the ground.
