Same here Nicos, but although my greenhouse ones are watered with rain water, they are only ever watered from the bottom so any spores won't be in the air. Not sure I understand it but hope that this year will be better. Interestingly enough, my Red Alert outside toms, although affected, seemed to be able to cope and still produced a good crop whereas on other varities the progress of the blight was much faster.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I have grown tomatoes on and off for years and cant remember getting blight before, this year I had it on my potatoes at my allotment and also my tomatoes which I grow at home in my garden. Could I have transfered it on my clothes etc, only a thought as I know nothing.

we have had blight for past 3 years on our site both on toms and spuds. We have given up trying to grow maincrop spuds, so just 1st and 2nd earlies. The toms didnt suffer too badly last year, most people panicked but I was still picking into the end of September.

The toms with blight splitted and went rotten, whilst the Italian Plum Tomatoes, didnt suffer any at all. I wonder if this is because i got them from Italy?

I have fumigated greenhouse and washed down glass with a ***** fluid mix, so lets see for this year.

I always wear my scruffs to the allotment.......

I would recommend signing up to Blightwatch:
Blightwatch.co.uk - the essential service for professional potato growers
You can add loads of postcode areas and you will receive a warning when there is a full smith period in any of them. If you don't know, this is the time when blight thrives and spreads. It's when the minimum temp has been above 10C and the humidity has been above 90% for 11 hours or more each day for two days on the trot. When you get a warning email you can take action, either spraying your tomatoes / potatoes, moving them, or checking for patches on the leaves (a few days after the smith period).

I have always grown toms at home wihout any problems but at the allotment I get blighted every year. I think it is due to people growing in the same soil year after year.
