Lynda I could post you some slugs if your chicks get their appetite for them back! Noticed the odd one or two around the garden & I think they must be active as something has nibbled the flowers off a couple of my snowdrops, never had a problem with that before!

Think I read somewhere they only go into hiding if the temp is below 5c
