    HI all

I've been told that Vitak SBK is a way of killing off brambles. I've been told to cut them back and then spray. Not sure if this is true or a good idea on an allotment

    Any thoughts?

If you've gone to all the trouble of cutting back the brambles it is only one small step to digging them out which would be quicker than waiting for the brambles to die, I dont know whether the formular for SBK has been changed but I have been told it used to be very nasty stuff and personally would not want to spray it anywhere near where I wanted to grow food.

thanks paul, think I'll give it a miss then, I've pretty much finished cutting back the brambles now(thank god). I'll start digging next weekend!

All systemic weedkillers will work better if applied to fresh young leaves rather than old leaves, hence why the suggestion is to prune them back to encourage new growth.

If you're afraid of using SBK, why not use something like Roundup?

          It has, it was.

Used to contain dioxin, can remember my dad using it as the weapon of absolute last resort on groundelder.
