evil things, we have been able to get rid of ours, but we keep tea tree oil for if they bite and it works

You have to loose sight of the shore sometimes to cross new oceans
I would be a perfectionist, but I dont have the time

I wouldn't bother, they'll probably just come back. We have ants all over our plot, so does everyone else and have done for some time. I've never known them to damage crops (apart from the obvious aphid farming) - the neighbours agreed when I asked them. That said they are annoying when they crawl inside your glove then have the audacity to bite you

I am glad I have a shed on my plot now - so I can dash in and peel off my T-shirt and shake off the red ants that crawl in there at least twice a year in the growing season! They sting - and not just once!Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

My plot is full of red ants and I get bitten most visits to the plot, my wife says they will destroy my roots and kill my crops but I'm not so sure
Any advice would be welcome

Honestly, our plot is crawling with red, black whatever ants. They're everywhere, probably in the compost bin too. Don't worry about them. I'm sure there could be the rare occurrence where they may damage summat but where we are they've been nothing more than a minor annoyance. Yes they do sting when they bite you, but I find wearing gloves helps, besides, I've come to accept the fact that I will be stung by something ( usually nettles ) at least once per visit. Digging in their territory apparently upsets them so try that if you want but I wouldn't stress about it.Last edited by Shadylane; 03-05-2010, 11:57 PM.

We've got them all over our lottie. I can live with any crop damage (minimal and the lottie's big enough to bear losses); and any bites we get, but if we want to spend time there, then we generally have to bring our lil' ones. We're creating an area for them, with a sandpit/Wendy house/little veg patch etc.; but if the ants start building nests in that part of the lottie, then we need to try out some of these ideas!I don't roll on Shabbos
