Broad bean woes

I've put some peas and broad beans in modules to be planted out in the next two weeks while Mr E is on hols. I noticed today that some of them have black tips to the leaves that are still closed up. The seed is shop bought not saved so I know it's not something they caught.

Question is what is it? What can I do about it? While it harm the crop?

Ok so that's three questions, but I'm sure there are some I haven't asked so you'll have to let me off.

Are they outside? Might have got windburn or even wee bit of frost on the tips?

mine had that but seem to be OK now they're planted out

They seem to be opening out ok. I'd not seen it on previous plantings so was a bit concerned. Fingers crossed mine will also be ok.

Now that they seem to have perked up I can only assume that you have the very rare variety of broad bean called 'Aqalunce Closed Leaf Black Tip'

I have just looked at my runner beans and they must be a similarily rare one called 'Frazzled', judging by the look of the leaves!

I too have sown Red Epicure although they aren't above ground yet! Have you grown them before EB? They certainly look colourful judging by the seed packet picture!

I sowed them this year as a spring sowing. I've not overwintered them before. They are still in the modules at the mo. Quite tasty and they stay red if steamed.

Well, my Red Epicure are just beginning to break the soil surface!!!

Well chufed!!! I was starting to worry that the seed had rotted!

I lost one red epicure and two Bunyards exhibition in the modules. They have now been transplanted to the lottie and covered with fleece. Garlic has also gone in now through membrane. The plants seem to be ok, no further marks and as the leaves unfurl they are healthy looking. Worried for nothing hopefully but will keep you all informed of progress.
