I have just noticed loads of ants in my herb bed - they are all over my sage. What can I do to get rid of them?

I don't think you need to get rid of them, they aren't harming the plant and when you pick the leaves you will wash them off anyway.

I have completely changed my opinion of ants. I didn't do anything about the ants in my herb bed and tonight I have been watching them pick the greenfly off of my parsley and carry them away....Maybe they are good after all!

Beware- they may deposit them on other plants nearby. They usually feed on their sugary excretions not the greenfly themselves.

We found a nest very recently a little too close to the house for comfort, hundreds of fliers all getting ready to go everywhere. To persuade them to leave we prinkled cinammon powder all around the area, not seen an ant since.

If you have veg you really dont want them all over depositing aphids etc it might be worth just placing a small ring around the base?
