  • swarms of greenfly

I have just looked out of the window and there are swarms of greenfly most of which are landing on my plants

there is no way I can squash all of them as they have hundreds of friends backing them up

I have never seen anything like it

I have greenfly on my potatoes too, it would be difficult for me to squash them as the potatoes resemble a forest

So i've just been spraying the potatoes with soapy water and i'm gonna plant some flowers to encourage natural predetors.

They came from no-where and I can see them all flying in. I have been out trying to squash them but there are 4 for everyone I get

They are only at the front of the house , I have been out the back and they don't seem to have found there yet.

I am covered in them UGH!

I think I will get the hose pipe out and see if I can't get a few that way

I've got loads here too! This is the year of The Greenfly!
I'm having to de-greenfly myself and the dogs when we come inside, this isn't pleasant.
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

I think my neighbours now believe I am the local mad woman. I have been outside on the drive spraying water like an idiot, but there in no point as I can see reinforcements coming down the driveway

That does sound pretty bad- apparently soapy water will actually kill them so don't know if you can make your hose blow bubbles lol

Lukily there are only a few on my tatas so not an infestation (Fingers crossed)

Hope you at least dappen down the swarm before they attack your plants anyway- keep us updated!

The only plants that have been attacked by greenfly in my gardens so far are lupins and lettuce. The lupins were attacked about six weeks ago on the young shoots, so I sprayed them with some soapy water. That killed the aphids, but it also damaged the leaves of the lupins.

Today I sprayed the lettuce with some garlic spray I made myself from a clove. I won't know if its worked until I crop my next lettuce though.

YUK you guys! Can I just ask you nicely to keep the greenfly to yourselves and don't let them come down any further south please?

                      Many thanks!

I have to concede that the greenfly have reached down south. Tray of toms, peppers and chillies spent the day outside today and when |I went to bring them in...the toms were covered in greenfly! I had a squishing time!

Yep - here too! So many of the little blighters there is no way I'm going to be able to squish 'em all!

Might have to resort tot the old soup spray!

They're here too. The sparrows were having a field day yesterday.

The spiders must be happy too. There's 10+ caught on each little web.

We have swarms in the front, it looks like the air is ful of them, wwird. But not may round the back. Strange that.
I hate them, they make me itch all over.
We didn't eat outide last night as the thought of them landing on my food put me right off.
