Been in garden with a yellow vest top on..... i really don't recommend yellow vests, i think the green fly think i'm a big sun flower, i'm covered . Looks like my one and only ladybird isn't doing her job, or she's sleeping the full tummy off???

It's really disgusting - I was inspecting my scabious today thinking of cutting some for the kitchen table, and the stalk was moving from the weight of them on there. *shivers*

Weve had millions of them here, weve never had so many,
the roses are coated with a skin of them on the end of new shoots, usualy theres a few, but the roses are moving with them
Strangely its only the apple trees and the roses with them, only one here and ther on everything else, even the bean plants have one or two, none on the tomatoes or strawberrys
the citrus trees have been taken over by thousands of spiders that are eating them, theres no real live ones on the citrus , again just here and there, its as if they are all going to the roses

Also theres whitefly all over the pomegranite and blackflys coating stems of the sunflowers , but neither can be seen on anything else, normaly the whitefly go on the tomatoes and citrus as well, and the blackfly are nornaly on the elderberry and foxgloves as well, but this year there not

I think they're making their way east ... I've had one after another landing on me while I've been in the garden.

So far (fingers crossed) they are only attacking my roses, and are easily squished with wet fingers.

I ended up moving all my plants from the front of the house as there were just too many greenfly. I was spraying the plants but within moments they were surrounded again. I was covered too so decided to retreat to the back of the house where there are some but nowhere near as many. Hopefully they won't follow

They are on the tomatoes at the back but its was peppers and chillis at the front.

I think it got worse as the weekend progressed, the spiders webs are laden!

Is this normal? this is my first year of growing stuff and to be honest I am taking more notice of the beasties in the garden trying to undertsand the good ones and bad. I am actually happy to see the bees for the first time ever I am sure I would have noticed this many greenfly , will they die off in a week or so or can we expect them all summer long?

I hope the swarms of greenfly are predicting a hot summer... I remember walking through clouds of them back in '76

A friend reminded me of this and is predicting thick clouds of ladybirds later in the season.

they don't go anywhere near my husband but head straight for me... I told him thats because he's a sour old puss still no fun though!

Yep, I remember that, AND the ladybirds that followed! I remember being on a school trip to blackpool where the sand and sea were liturally red with lady birds! We had to cover our mouths for fear of swallowing them. NOT a good day.

Can't be a sign of a good summer - even Aberdeen has them now. Or at least my windowsill has !
If we ever had shoals of ladybirds on Aberdeen beach, you may be sure they were not sunbathing - they would be suffering from hypothermia.
