  • Ants - grrrr

What is the best way to get these pesky blighters out of my raised beds without endangering my cats or any other wildlife?

You'll never get rid of ants, don't stress about it

they like hot dry conditions, so you could try watering the nests, repeatedly, to drive them away. They'll only set up camp elsewhere in your garden though

I have an apple tree in a pot with an ants nest in, would soapy water hurt the tree?

        Thanks

I have used polenta or semolina sprinkled around the nests. They feed the queen on it but it can't be digested, she dies - end of nest. I think that's the theory and it has had some success.

Are the ants doing any harm ? Do you need to do anything ? I try to just ignore them.

We have loads of ants and our lottie neighbours say they've been there for ages. They don't do any harm other than serve as a minor annoyance. I'd leave em to it. They don't like being disturbed apparently so you could dig about a bit but it doesn't seem to bother ours all that much. I did read somewhere that they hate pepper mint so you could get some of that (peppermint oil) put in your watering can and water the beds but like 'Sheds said they'll probably just move somewhere else in your patch.
