I was told by a local smallholder that they line their potato troughs when planting with grass cuttings and this prevents blight. I scoffed somewhat but could there be truth in this?

Don't see how that could help as had always understood that the blight was in the atmoshere but suppose it could help with keeping any contaminated soil off the tubers.

Scab would make more sense definitely - Unless one has contaminated solids lying around I believe blight is wind born spores, hence the lack of blight in my greenhouse. I shall quiz my informant more closely!Comment
