  • Blight avoidance?

I was told by a local smallholder that they line their potato troughs when planting with grass cuttings and this prevents blight. I scoffed somewhat but could there be truth in this?

Don't see how that could help as had always understood that the blight was in the atmoshere but suppose it could help with keeping any contaminated soil off the tubers.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Doesn't it prevent scab, not blight?

        Scab would make more sense.

Scab would make more sense definitely - Unless one has contaminated solids lying around I believe blight is wind born spores, hence the lack of blight in my greenhouse. I shall quiz my informant more closely!

Must try the grass clippings next year, my spuds are always a bit scabby, light sandy East Anglian soil here
