Blossom End Rot

Noticed that my Supersteak toms had brown "bottoms" and looking pictures on the net I think they have this Blossom End Rot.

Can't think why it has not affected my cherry ones as I have treated all the tom plants the same.

Really peed off about this as they were getting nice and big

Blossom end rot is supposed to be due to erratic watering. You may have treated your cherry toms the same as the beafsteak, but maybe the beafsteak plants were bigger and need more water/feed

The bigger the tomatoes the more likely they are to get BER, Soltaire. That's why your cherry toms are not affected. I gave up trying with Marmande just for that reason. BER everytime when other toms were fine. A bit disappointing for you but maybe best to stick to smaller varieties.

I tried a tomato variety called Zomok this year and nearly every fruit has blossom end rot despite a good watering regime. I won't be growing them again; the Gardeners Delight and Ailsa Craig are fine.

I'm quite happy with the cherry ones, they are delicious and I don't really like toms .
I only bought the bigger ones because hubby wanted them

Blossom End Rot is a calcium deficiency (caused by erratic watering or too much nitrogen feeding). As big toms need more calcium than cherries, they are more prone.

I'll make sure it gets more water but if they keep going the same way, I'm afraid the plant will be pulled up

I've just had to remove one of my Marmand toms with the same thing. Will the rest of the toms on the same plant get it?

I've had a few Tigerella with BER!
