they've suddenly started eating my young plants too ... there must have been a population explosion during all the rain, and now they are growing snails and very hungry

Loads here too, and getting cheeky with it. I'm finding them in all sorts of strange places, and quite a few of them are small(ish), so I go along with TwoShed's idea of a "baby snail boom"

Same here, not content with eating most of my bean leaves, the B'stards have started on the beans too.
Sent from my pc cos I don't have an i-phone.

Me too! Do beer traps work for them too?

My marigolds have disappeared, almost. One cheeky blighter was oozing down my front window the other day. I was fascinated by the ciliary action of its foot! Then it wrapped bits of its foot around a leaf (like paws) and proceeded with a 'nom, nom, nom' action. Kinda cute, until I saw the marigolds the next day...

I used to put all the snails that I find into the green compost bin and let the council sort them, but nowadays, since I got my lottie, I just squish them on sight.

The same goes for the slugs, unless I slice them up to use as bait to catch the little fish in my pond that I'm trying to get rid of.

Definitely a baby boom going on. They just ate all my emerging carrot seedlings
I keep finding tiny ones in the GH too!
