I've seen this happen too! Chopped bits dashing all over the place, totally disgusting!

I have an old crock pot buried to the brim with beer in it and in the last 3 days over 30 slugs were drowned in it! A small amount of beer lasts for quite a number of days. In fact, the more disgusting the contents get the more slugs it appears to attract!

Cheap beer seems to work best!

I put the pot contents on the compost when it's 'brewed' long enough!

You can't drink salty water, it's horrible, don't waste good beer on slugs!



I tried that and my chooks just turn their beaks up at slugs and refuse to eat them

Agree on the beer....

My girls all go mad on slugs and it's like chicken rugby as someone here once described! however only a few have figured how to extract the tasty morsels out of the snail shells!

Save wasting good beer, if you've got a local maybe they'll let you have some of the slops at the end of the night? My Dad used to get slops from the pub over the road for his beer traps but now he's got vicious and just snips them in half! (Like father like daughter I have to 'fess)

Omg, this thread is like a nightmare horror movie - Attack of the Zombie Slugs.

This is so disturbing - it's almost as if they've evolved a way of surviving being cut in half.

Totally with you on that one - waste of Beer!

When I threw a huge slug in to my Chooks about 4 grabbed it and ripped it to shreds I think they all got a bit in the end!

Luckily we don't get many, they can't seem to hide in hard clay!

Well our clay soil doesn't seem to deter them. Loads. Loads I tell you. As for wasting beer, Mozzas do a four pack of their cheap n nasty own brand (actually it's not that nasty - I tired it ) for 98p. Can't go wrong. At the mo, him indoors has taken to going on late eve slug hunts and relocating them to the bushy verges down the street. I worry that they may come back, or stage a coup or something.

Oh ewww that's so disgusting. I've only ever chopped a slug in half by accident once. I'm hoping if/when I get a lottie I'll have some chooks and slugs, caterpillars and weeds will magically be turned into lovely eggs.

my husband calls me wee willy winkie, as i have been know on numerous occations to go snail/slug hunting in my garden, at night, in my nightie with a torch lol. With my trusty bucket of salt water in hand. Oh and so right,dont waste the beer !!!
