Stinging Nettles.

Are there different types of stinging nettle? A normal sting from one can usually be sorted out with a quick rub with a dock leaf, but we have a small patch on out lottie and they are LETHAL, really painful stings which actually left my hand numb for 2 days. I thought I was being a bit of a wuss, but OH stung himself this morning on the same one and he confirms that it's a lot worse than your average sting. (its days are numbered, I'm just curious)

yeah, annual ones and perennial ones, Wiki says 30-45 different species

Don't know if there are different species, but I find that plants grown in drier conditions have stronger stings. Antihistamine is actually far more effective than dockleaves, I always carry cream in my pocket now as I react badly to stings and bites.

the ones inside the greenhouse (don't ask) and the ones behind that get a lot more warmth are HORRIBLE when they sting you

You can always get your own back on them though by chopping them down and making a liquid feed from them!

Thank you, we're not imagining it then. It's growing on the lottie, but right beside the privet hedge and under the overhang of next door's shed so it probably is drier.
