Roe deer and sweetcorn!

Hi, Has anyone experienced Roe deer and an apparent liking for corn? Our allotment (several plots) has had a nocturnal visitor/s who has nibbled loads of corn and bashed down the plants in the process. We have eliminated rabbits, badgers, birds and squirrels due to fencing and/or extent of damage. the only creature we can put it down to is Roe deer hopping over the fences for tea!

Something's been nibbling at mine too, put it down to badgers, but not sure.

Deer can do a phenomenal amount of damage but are more likely to eat buds of fruit trees. broad bean shoots etc. If they did go for the maize they would eat a few probably without damaging the rest.

What you describe is undoubtedly Badgers. They will flatten the lot on the night it is ripe! No fencing will keep out a badger (except possibly electric...which I have known them charge through too) They are immensely powerful and determined creatures especially where sweetcorn is concerned.

It is very sad that this idiotic meddling government has allowed this ludicrous explosion in the badger population.

When I first read the title I thought it was a recipe. I'd agree about the badgers, they can do a surprising amount of damage, you should have seen the state of my mum's garden when there was a badger sett nearby and she didn't even grow food crops (don't know what happened to it, but there hasn't been damage for many years now).

No, definately NOT badgers, unless they can jump a 3 foot fence, or get through it without damage!! I believe its deer.
