Beer traps for slugs, a poll.

OH has a 'slug bucket' where he drowns any we catch in about an inch of paraffin, then uses it to start a bonfire when it's full of the deceased. As for where to bury the bags, we normally start in February, dotting them about, then as the year goes on fit them in where possible as the beds fill up.
You could also try bran. Slugs love it, they scarf it down, then it swells in their stomachs and they sort of explode. You can tell I've had a long running war with slugs, can't you?

When it comes to war it pays to listen to the veterans. Keep it coming! Haha.

The bran sounds like a good idea. Nothing nasty in it and (I'm guessing) no harm for any more desirable creatures that the come along and eat the slugs.

Well the absolute best slug remover I've discovered yet is a flock of chickens. Not only are they incredibly efficient, they then turn them into eggs.

I don't think I can blame slugs for avoiding Carling. Muck!

I've not seen any frogs on my plot yet, though I suppose there could be some. I don't think I've really got the space for a pond and creating habitat for amphibians though... nor if the site will actually allow it.

My pond is an old child's sand pit it's about 3 foot square & about 6" deep.
I was cutting the grass round it the other day a saw 8 pairs of eyes watching me from it.

I've been playing around with some different plans for how to lay out my plot and it's tight (I have a 24 yard by 5 yard plot, slightly less than the standard 30)... that might be the difference between a pond and no pond unless I can figure something clever out.

I have just skimmed though the above ideas, comments and whatever else could kill these slimey critters!
Has any body tried NEMETOADS? I did and I am not at all sure if they work or not. I know you must think he's mad spending that sort of money but despararte, dedicated slug killers will try anything
I still use the organic pellets in all the nooks and crannies around the garden and found a good reason to carry on doing so! I lifted a small paving slab to bring it back up to level and there were about 20 slugs just waiting to invade my plot. They are dead now!

I'm currently trying a supermarket own brand *waves hi to Jamie* lager, at 91p for 4 cans. It's only 2%, so not sure whether it's strong enough for the slugs to get drunk and fall in

However, one of the huge benefits to me of using beer traps is that the slugs come to you, as such, rather than having to hunt for them. When I do go looking for them, I just flick them in the beer traps.

It's totally organic, and the lazy/squeamish way to deal with them.
