Can anyone identify this weed. It has a trailing habit - with runners extending as far as 12 foot. The leaf is shaped like a spade (as in clubs and diamonds), very crinkly, tightly serrated edges, dark green and deeply veined, and 5-10cms from stem to tip. The stem has dense furry prickles which are not sharp, are reddish in colour whereas the stem itself is green. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Sorry Scunny Zeb - I haven't got a digital camera and although my mobile phone takes pictures and I used to know how to export them, I have completely forgotten and can't find how to attach the phone to my computer. I am actually 81 - so that could be the reason!

you can open a free Flickr account and send your mobile pics to it. Then save them from Flickr onto your desktop, and from there to here.

Thank you everyone for your suggetions - Two Sheds, there's no point in getting Flickr as I don't know how to link my computer to the mobile and I know it's not ivy a I have plenty of that already - ivy leaves are smooth - these leaves are crinkly like savoy cabbage! No Nicos, it hasn't flowered and thank you Pies for the suggestion but the link you put up has a bandwidth problem (whatever that is) and wouldn't display. But thanks again neveryone all the same.

I'm impressed you are 81 and know how to export pictures from your mobile! I'm 39 and I can't do that
I have a friend in the IOM and she's in a local gardening club, I can get the details for you if you like, I suggest you join that as you will get all the help and advice you need.

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

To Womble - wow thanks a lot - I would love to know her and the group - we have only been here a year and so far have not discovered anyone in a gardening group. You are a star! I too mostly grow veggies but one of our boundaries comprises 150foot of trees and shrubs which border a public lane and this weed is threading its way through the lot!

you send your photo to Flickr, like sending a textAll gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Thanks Two Sheds - it's getting the pics from flickr onto the computer in order to get them here that baffles me ....
Lovage: I don't think it is a variety of bramble - the "prickles" on the leaves are very dense and although they look like prickles they are more like red fur and not at all prickly.

Gela...
If you send the photo to flickr - getting it on here is trivial and you don't need to get it onto your computer first.
Flickr is like an online photo album. When you want to put a picture from there on this forum (or any other) you'll go to the flickr website and log in (if you can log in to this forum you'll be able to do so there), find the picture you want to put on here and click where it says "[img] code" under the picture, it'll say "copied" (if not, press Ctrl+C to copy it) then come to a post on here and press Ctrl+V to paste it into your post at the same time as you're writing a message.
If you really want to get a picture of it on here and those instructions are a bit much (which would be understandable - it's easy for young upstarts like me to use computers when we've been using them for 20 years or so - less so for people who grew up before pocket calculators!) I'll be happy to talk you through it over something like MSN Messenger (aka Windows Live Messenger) or Skype (if you have that - if not you should - free phone calls worldwide to other users of Skype).Last edited by organic; 19-10-2009, 11:31 AM.

Two Sheds - I have printed out your instructions and, to me, they do seem very complicated. I don't know how Microsoft Mesenger works and only use Lotus software for writing and spreadsheets, databases etc. My mobile is not in use unless I am in the UK because it has an Orange pay-as-you-go sims card and from here costs 38p per minute to send and 19p per minute to receive - which I think is rather expensive and I imagine I will have run out of money before I get to grips with the proceedure. I am not a "texter" so that would take a bit of learning, and although I have a button on the phone which says internet, I am not really sure how to navigate if I ever got there. Maybe if I hear from Womble again I will be able to ask someone here face to face more knowledgable of the local plant life than I am. But truly, many thanks for all your instructions and concern. I am really grateful for your help.
