      Could be an ornamental bramble. I've been clearing one from a garden which it completely took over. very fine red prickles that dont prickle. It roots wherever it touches down. sort of thing the Council plant for ground cover.

          Helen Johnson- sounds more like it - has yours got VERY large leaves for a bramble? Mine has. Thanks for the suggestion - I could look it up on the net and compare
